"This piece was made from a combination of professional oil paints, and from paint I have made myself. I forage for pigments and botanical matter to create handmade oil and watercolor paints, which I used in this work. This piece is meant to display what healthy, rich, thriving soil appears like, versus unhealthy, eroded, lifeless dirt. The earth is in dire need of our help to halt the wreckage that we have, ourselves, inflicted upon her. Humans seem to only recognize a problem if it is directly in front of our eyes. However, one of our major problems is directly below our feet instead! Healthy soil creates a thriving ecosystem, just as unhealthy soilcreates a dying one."
